math 6c, 2021-22
Room: EarthScience183
Time: Sunday 11:10AM - 12:40PM
Grades: 6-7
Prerequisites: Math 5 or placement test
Material fee: $15.00
Description: Math 6 is a dynamic class in which we first introduce each of the topics that we will cover throughout the course, after which the students apply these new concepts to solve related problems. This is the level at which students start learning the direct relation between math and logic and learning concepts from linear equations in more depth, going through arithmetic and probability, and going through some geometrical constructs. The professor and the TA will help the students solve the problems and solve some more confusing problems.

- Assigned on 09/26: Welcome to Math 6!: Welcome letter | Overview of Math 5: A set of problems covering the topics from Math 5. |
As homework for next class you need to solve problems 1, 3, 6, 7, 8, 12, 15, 18. Make sure to try all of the problems. If you can't solve a problem, we will solve it together at the beginning of next class.
- Assigned on 10/3: Overview of Math 5 (Continued): Covering probability, combinatorics and geometry |
The handout is the same as last class. For next class, solve problems 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 30.

For the next class, your only homework is to prove Theorems 11 and 12. We will work on the rest of the material next Sunday.
- Assigned on 03/27: Geometry III: Continued |
We continued with the set of problems from the previous week. For next class, you need to do the rest of the problems. That is, you need to solve all the problems except for proving Theorems 11 and 12. If you did not prove the theorems last week, make sure to do it for this one.
- Assigned on 04/3: Geometry IV: Triangle inequality and quadrilaterals |
For next week you only need to do the first 5 problems. We will work on the rest next week.
- Assigned on 04/10: Geometry IV: Continued | Math Battle: The problems |
We did a Math battle. Your homework for next week is to finish the problems from the previous handout.
- Assigned on 04/24: Ruler and compass constructions: Using these tools to draw perfect figures |
- Assigned on 05/1: Ruler and compass constructions II: More on these nice constructions |
- Assigned on 05/8: Ruler and compass constructions III: Origami |
- Assigned on 05/15: Review Tournament I: Covering the first half of our course |
There is no homework, so you can use this opportunity to catch up on any homework that you didn't submit previously. Any problem for the tournament that you hand in the next class will also count, but they will count for only half of the points.
